To the editor,
Vermont is a national leader in organic farming and has a reputation for pure and wholesome dairy and produce. GMOs threaten the Vermont seal of quality and our clean and green status. 22% of our acreage is in organic crops, which means GMOs are a direct threat to our organic farms—the most viable sector in Vermont agriculture, and the stewards of the land and biodiversity!
Organic dairy is the future of VT farming and its fastest growing sector. GMOs in Vermont could mean the end of organic faming and organic dairy with it. With the rising concern around the world about the safety and security of our food supply, Vermont needs to protect this most valuable resource and be a model to the world as a GE-FREE state, providing only the safest and healthiest foods and products. A moratorium on GMOs in Vermont is a vital step in achieving that goal.
Sincerely,
