To the Editor:

Multi-national corporations like Monsanto, DuPont, and Dow are attempting to take over the global seed supply. Meanwhile, family farmers are being forced to assume all liability for untested products such as genetically engineered seeds. The farmers have to take on this liability even though they are never allowed to actually own the seed. They are only paying a “user fee” to be allowed to use the seed, but the corporations retain the ownership. In January, our House Representatives will have a chance to stand up for Vermont’s family farmers and vote for a strict liability provision in the Farmer Protection Act. Our Senators have already shown their support for our farmers. I hope that our Representatives will do the same.

Sincerely,
