Bread and Roses
A Readers Theater Play
By Lea Wood of Central Vermont Women's International League for Peace & Freedom, in celebration for International Women's Day
Tuesday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Langdon Street Cafe
Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. at the Kellogg Hubbard Library Hayes Room at 6:00pm
The play is about 40 minutes long.

I finished the play for International Women's Day which is about four Jewish immigrant women who did a huge thing for unionizing working women in the early 1900's and for the rest of their lives. Strangely enough, I didn't remember exactly what Internatl Women's Day really stood for. Its history is fascinating and the play right on for celebrating it as it began in 1910 to mark the strike of garment workers in the U.S. in 1909, largest ever. And that strike is in the play! The Day was proposed by Clara Zetkin, Germany, at the Socialist International Conference in Denmark and unanimously approved by over 100 women from 17 countries. It was established to honor the movement for women's rights, including the right to vote. Interesting, yes?
