4/29 Rural Vermont Annual Meeting

RURAL VERMONT ANNUAL MEETING:

With Keynote Karl Hammer of Vermont Compost Company

All are welcome to Rural Vermont’s annual meeting on Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 from 6:30 – 9pm at the Capital City Grange Hall, Northfield Road (Rt 12), Berlin (1/2 mile south of Montpelier).  The event will be a celebration of the victories and successes of Rural Vermont’s commitment to supporting and cultivating vital and healthy rural economies and communities.   Admission is free for Rural Vermont members and $10 for all else.

Keynote speaker Karl Hammer is the owner of Vermont Compost Company, and his visionary business model is an inspiration to progressive agriculture.  Over the last year, Karl has been working closely with Rural Vermont and other organizations to advocate for reasonable, scale-appropriate regulations for composters.  The result of this collaborative work will be the growth of a vibrant compost industry that delivers positive economic and environmental benefits to Vermont.

Bring your wallet and be prepared to treat yourself! The event will commence with a Chance Auction of food and products donated by farms and businesses in the surrounding area including Apple Check Farm, Fat Toad Farm, Adamant Co-op, and more. Rural Vermont merchandise will be for sale as well, including the new note card series. Each different note card in the set of ten features art donated by Vermont artists and reflects Rural Vermont’s vision statement.  All proceeds benefit Rural Vermont.

Rural Vermont’s director Amy Shollenberger will deliver a legislative update, with news pertaining to all of the bills that Rural Vermont has advocated for in the 2009 legislative session, including the Farm Fresh Milk Restoration Act, the Composting bill, the Working Farm Dog bill, and more. Find out the status of these bills and what you can do to keep them moving in the last week s of the session.

Other highlights of the evening will include board elections, an awards ceremony, finger food potluck (bring your favorite dish!) and live music by Kiely G. and special guest.
