Over the years, Rural Vermont has been successful in advocating for everything from fair taxation to hemp legalization to expanding rights around raw milk production. If you’ve been involved with Rural Vermont along the way or are interested in learning more now, come to Rural Vermont’s 25th Anniversary Celebration to honor our past, and help us build the future!
The day will get started with Rural Vermont’s 25th Annual Meeting, led by director Brian Moyer. Moyer will discuss the results of the 2010 legislative session, and Rural Vermont’s next steps towards achieving the vision of living soils, thriving farms, and healthy communities. Rural Vermont’s newest campaign - Free Enterprise Farming - will be introduced through the debut of a short documentary film. The Annual Meeting will also include Board elections and an awards ceremony.
Throughout the day, a variety of events and activities will be on offer, all with a focus on food and farming. Come check out the barnyard sale of gently used farm equipment, book a 15-minute q&a session with a seasoned farmer in our farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange, and bid to win a farm tour, skill demos and other great items in the farm & food auction. Enter a cake in the birthday cake contest, relax with friends and family over a potluck dinner, and enjoy the tunes by the Tunbridge bluegrass group Haywire.
Heading into the evening, the keynote speaker will be previous Rural Vermont board member and author of “The War on Bugs” Will Allen of Cedar Circle Farm. Will Allen is an organic farming visionary - a true activist, entrepreneur, and expert, he understands the complexities of farming firsthand and the impact that commercialization has had. Following the keynote, local sensation Hillary and the Party Crashers will take the stage to deliver some danceable, high energy music!
