Tour de Farms Offers Sampling and Cycling Near Champlain

All are invited to join in the Tour de Farms in Shoreham, Addison
County, Vermont on Sunday, September 21 at 10:30 am.  Bicyclists of
all abilities will enjoy sampling an abundance of locally-grown
products from small farms and orchards while cycling through the
autumnal landscapes of Shoreham village and the Lake Champlain
countryside.  Participants in the Tour will choose one of three
possible routes:  a family-friendly 10 miles or more moderate 24 or
30 miles.  Along the way, cyclists are invited to stop at farms for a
free offering of a tasty treat produced or grown at that location.
Sampling will include apples, cheese, wine, bread, roasted
vegetables, pies, yogurt smoothies, cider, cookies, and milk. The
advance registration fee is $15 for adults and $8 for children under
age 15.  The registration fee on the day of the event will be higher,
so all are encouraged to register in advance.  The event will occur
rain or shine.  Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle,
helmet, and a bag for purchasing veggies, cheeses, and wine from the
purveyors.

Organized by the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition, Rural
Vermont, and ACoRN, the Tour is designed to draw attention to the
benefits of bicycling, sustainable agriculture, and eating locally.
The organizers want to promote personal and planetary health through
muscle-powered outdoor recreation and direct connections between
farmers and consumers.

The Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (www.vtbikeped.org) is a
statewide, education and advocacy, nonprofit organization that
promotes safe bicycling, running, and walking.  Rural Vermont
(www.ruralvermont.org) is a nonprofit advocacy group founded by
farmers in 1985 that advocates, activates, and educates for living
soils, thriving farms, and healthy communities.  ACoRN
(www.acornvt.org) is an Addison County community-building network
promoting locally-grown food and agriculture.  Proceeds from the Tour
de Farms will benefit the ongoing community work of all three
organizations.  For more information and to register for the Tour de
Farms, contact the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition at (802)
