Come join Rural Vermont for cooking classes that will highlight the fall season, and feature lots of local products. Pasture raised poultry, storage staple rutabegas and turnips, and everyone’s favorite fall comfort food - the pumpkin - are among the tasty possibilities! Classes will be held in the private homes of Montpelier folks, from 5-8 pm on Saturday, November 15th and Saturday, December 13th. Montpelier chef Susan Reid leads these classes that offer a hands-on learning experience, and end with a sit-down, family-style meal.
The cost is $20 per class, or three community credits plus a $5 ingredient fee per class for members of the Onion River Exchange. There is limited space available for each of the classes, so reserve your spot now! Class location and directions disclosed upon registration.
Susan’s proposed menus include braised lamb or goat in November, along with varied brussel sprout dishes and seasonal pies. For December, there will be a chicken, apple, and root vegetable curry, roasted veggie salad with goat cheese, and maple cookies. Menus are subject to change, and are based on local availability.
Susan Reid ran Susan's Kitchen, an international take out restaurant and catering business in Montpelier for 8 years. She is known as a creative chef, experienced in preparing cuisines from around the world. She has also taught a number of cooking classes on demystifying unusual ingredients, putting variety into winter soups, and introducing various ethnic cuisine cooking techniques. She has recently volunteered at Foodworks, Rural Vermont and LACE, supporting their efforts to promote the use of local foods.
For questions or to enroll in one or both of the cooking classes, email shelby@ruralvermont.org or call 802/223.7222. Registration forms are also available for download on the website here.
