Let’s put a face on the “small farmer” and highlight the crucial role you are playing in the future of Vermont agriculture! Join Rural Vermont staff and board and introduce your farms to legislators and other policy makers. Share your story of the practices and values that guide your farming work and support soil health, water quality, and your community.
In a morning briefing, Rural Vermont staff will provide information on current legislation that will impact small farmers. The morning program will also include tips on how to find and effectively communicate with your elected representatives.
Hard to get away for a day? We are excited to announce that stipends will be available to farmers who want to participate and could use help covering the costs associated with being away from the farm and from home (transportation, relief farm help, & childcare). More information and how to apply here, or email Andrea.
Check out what people are saying about Rural Vermont’s Small Farm Action Days!
I was so appreciative of the opportunity to speak directly with legislators about some of the concerns I have as a farmer – particularly as we grapple with new regulations on best management practices. These changes are important for everyone and our collective air, water and soil quality, but legislators need input and education, on how this will impact farming in Vermont. In my experience, they were deeply interested to learn more for the crafting of good laws.

Small Farm Action Day gives farmers the opportunity to share their stories, successes, and challenges with each other and with our representatives. Rural Vermont helped empower us with the skills needed to effectively communicate with our legislators.
